Airline Alliance

A business relationship between two or more airlines to cooperate on a substantial level. These alliances are often between U.S. domestic carriers and foreign ones. The purpose is to allow foreign carriers access to the U.S. market and domestic carriers a means of access to "beyond-Europe" centers. There are three major airline alliances.

oneworld

The oneWorld alliance travels to 600 destinations in 135 countries. Combined fleet of approximately 2,000 aircraft. 8 member airlines:

Star Alliance

Established in 1997, Star Alliance travels to 795 destinations in 139 countries. Combined fleet of more than 2,000 aircraft. 21 member airlines:

SkyTeam

SkyTeam offers 658 destinations in 133 countries. Combined fleet of more than 2,000 aircraft. 9 member airlines:
